Mani means “jewel” and is often used with padme (lotus), making the meaning of this part of the chant “jewel lotus.” Lotus flowers signify the blossoming of the mind, the passing from darkness into being enlightened. In feng shui, it symbolizes joy, happiness, harmony, and peace. Jewel lotus when combined, refers to Kuan Yin (The Goddess of Compassion).
